Be ready to go back in time and walk through the ancient world of the Dani tribes during this trekking tour in the southern part of the Baliem Valley. You return to the roots of Papua and challenge yourself to meet the most beautiful people in the most fascinating environment.
In 1938, the area of Baliem Valley and its people were discovered, and the original Dani and Lani tribes still inhabit this beautiful valley today. This five-day trekking tour through the southern Baliem Valley offers excellent and exciting trekking routes and an unforgettable adventure for your soul. A fantastic physical condition is required for this tour. You pass mountainous and isolated areas where you will meet friendly tribes living according to their traditional ways. Although people have started to wear Western clothing, their habits and way of living have not changed much in the last decades. There are no road systems between the villages, so walking is the only option to move around the valley. We take you back to the roots of Papua in a fascinating and pure environment.
In the morning, we will depart from Wamena town to the starting point of the trek. During the trek, simple but tasteful meals will be prepared. You should bring your sleeping bag, sleeping mat, and a mosquito net for comfort. During the trek, we will boil water from the nearby springs to drink. There will be no/minimal electricity, so bring enough batteries for your camera or a portable charger. Accommodation during the trek will be fundamental. We will spend the nights in local schools, churches, or houses of the teachers of the villages on the ground. Today, we will already walk around 4 hours from the starting point before reaching our first overnight stay.
We will trek through beautiful parts of the Baliem Valley in the coming days. This incredible experience will take you through breathtaking landscapes and allow you to meet the traditional and intriguing tribes of the highlands. An excellent physical condition and no fear of heights are necessary. We will walk between 5-7 hours each day. We will have steep climbs and descents, cross-hanging bridges, and pass the beautiful gardens of the local villagers. Bring some warm clothes for the evenings as the nights can be chilly in these high altitudes.
Today, we will reach the end point of our trekking adventure. A car will take us back to Wamena town, where we will arrive late afternoon. That night, you will sleep in a good hotel with hot water and a comfortable bed. It is a nice reward after spending the days under local circumstances.
