Much of the old hotel is still preserved original, like the entrance, the restaurant and some of the rooms. You will stay in the new rooms with direct view on the ocean. ♦ Day 2: Historical Tour - Japanese Cave & Museum - Wood Carving - Deserted Beaches (B.)
The battle of Biak was fought in 1944 between the United States' and the Japanese Army, during the WW II New Guinea campaign. Around 10.000 Japanese and 500 Americans have lost their lives on this island. We will visit one of the many caves in Biak where Japanese troops used to hide in the time of the war. A collection of WW II remaining can be found in a small museum near the Japanese Cave. Afterwards we will continue to a small wood carving work-shop where we can see traditional woodcarving. The local people make beautiful music instruments here. If enough time you can visit one of Biak's waterfalls before ending the day at Biak's beautiful and deserted beaches where you can relax and swim the day away.
