♦ Day 1: Wamena - Transfer to Starting Point Trekking (L.D.)
In the morning we will depart from Wamena town to the starting point of the trek. During the trek simple but tasteful meals will be prepared. Accommodation during the trek will be very basic and you will sleep on the floor. We will stay the nights in local schools, churches or teacher's houses. For your own comfort, you should bring your own sleeping bag, sleeping mat and a mosquito net. During the trek we will boil water from the nearby springs to drink. There will be no/very limited electricity, so bring enough batteries for your camera or a portable charger. Today we will walk around 4 hours from the starting point before reaching our first overnight stay.
♦ Day 2 - 9: Trekking Southern Baliem (B.L.D.)
We will walk between 6 -8 hours each day. The trekking varies from narrow, slippery paths to steep climbings and descendings. When it rains, the path will become more difficult. We will cross hanging bridges, pass the characteristic vegetable gardens of local villagers and walk through and alongside river trails. We will have great panoramic views of steep forest slopes and gardens. We will pass many traditional villages and also meet with friendly local Papuans. You’ll be surprised how small but physically strong these people actually are. Some walk for several days to sell or exchange their crops in other villages.
Bring a wind-proof jacket, and some warm clothes, because when we rest on top of the mountain hills, the wind can blow quite hard making you cool down too fast. Also bring your rain coat as rain can fall any time in these tropical environments. In the evening, the temperatures can drop significantly making the nights pleasant and often chilly.
On day 6 we will have a free day on a beautiful, isolated location. Time to catch your breath and enjoy the village life.
♦ Day 10: End of Trekking - Back to Wamena (B.L.)
Day 10 will be the last day of our trekking adventure. Usually we will reach the end point of our trek just after lunch, so you will be back in Wamena in the late afternoon.
It will feel like a well deserved reward to sleep in a good hotel, with a comfortable bed and a hot shower after this tiring, but very exciting trek.
♦ Day 11: Transfer to Airport (B.)
